These aren’t your dad’s Aloha shirts.
As temperatures heat up and more COVID-19 vaccines become available around the United States, celebrities like Rihanna, Sophie Turner and Cara Delevingne are putting a fresh, stylish spin on the humble Hawaiian shirt.
The bad gal, 33, set the bar as usual in a tropical Celine top ($750) paired with a Random Identities denim miniskirt over ERL boxer shorts and Amina Muaddi heels ($1,020) for a chic grocery run last week.
Shortly after, 25-year-old Turner soaked up some sun wearing a Louisa Ballou leaf-print shirt ($250) over a green ribbed cardigan ($350) and matching shorts ($325) from Calle Del Mar. “I’ll have a piña colada please,” she wrote on Instagram, getting in the spirit.
Fully committed to the island aesthetic was Delevingne, 28, who wore her Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned over a houndstooth-patterned bikini on social media Friday.
And Justin Bieber took the trend even further by twinning with his pup Oscar in red floral button-downs from Dog Threads ($38 for canine sizes, $68 for men’s) in early April.
“Screaming!!!,” the pop star’s wife, Hailey Baldwin, captioned a pic of Biebs enjoying red wine as his furry friend looked on.

Incidentally, the tourist-approved trend’s comeback was heralded by none other than, well, a dad: Bill Murray, who stole the show during the 2021 Golden Globes in a multicolored Hawaiian shirt, martini in hand.
